DE 901 Carl Ecke Grand Pianoforte with stool. See Grand Pianos Under Restoration (below) for more details...
DE 952 Challen Grand and stool. We will be adding the details as time allows.
DE 916 Ibach Grand Pianoforte with stool. See Grand Pianos Under Restoration (below) for more details...
DE 932 Rud. Ibach Grand Pianoforte and stool. Serial number: 83747. This piano was built in Germany in 1921. Ibach is one of Germany's best-known piano builders. The casing is extremely elegant, having a light, well-proportioned feel. It has 88 keys, in ebony
and ivory, and two pedals.
This is a nice sized piano at 180 cm in length and 151 cm in width. It is very original condition is a
testament to being well kept and lightly used.
We feel to simply give the piano a major service and cleaning, as to undertake any major repair seems unnecessary and adds cost but not value-to-use.
We will point out any age-related condition "faults" to prospective buyers. Such as a few blemishes on the ebony casing, a soundboard crack et cetera, and show why we feel these don't warrant repair.
Hire price: launch charge of R 2950.00 and monthly charge of R 2150.00.
Sale price: R 132 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 946 Ibach Grand and stool. We will be adding the details as time allows.
DE 938 Kawai Grand and stool. We will be adding the details as time allows.
DE 957 Reisbach Grand and stool. Serial number: 2777. We have not seen a Reisbach piano before this one... It is of surprisingly high quality and has an amazing clarity of tone, having the ability to be very
loud but also retaining the German tone quality. The piano does not sound like a small grand! Having been re-polished in the past (before we purchsed it), this grand has a very clean, lighter mahogany look.
This is one of those instances where this piano would be underestimated as the brand is not a familiar one, but the overall quality is higher than most and is underpriced when compared to pianos that would offer the same value.
The piano has 88 keys - in original ivory and the touch on the lighter side of what one expects from a grand piano, very pleasant to play - and 2 pedals. This is what one considers a baby grand, being 143 cm long and 144 cm wide.
Sale price: R 85 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 949 Schimmel Grand and stool. We will be adding the details as time allows.
DE 928 Steck Grand Pianoforte with matching stool. Although you would hardly notice, it is interesting to know that this grand piano was originally a pianola, but the pianola mechanism has been removed. This piano has a lightish mahogany casing. Manufactured in America, likely New York, this is a very good quality piano. Generally, American pianos have a very good reputation. The piano is of quite large dimentions, with large fluted gate leg design (double legs) giving it a very Victorian appearance and a masculine antique feel about it.
Hire price: launch price of R 2 500.00 and monthly charge of R 950.00.
Sale price: R 70 250.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 905 Steinway and Sons Grand Pianoforte with stool. This Model O Steinway Grand Piano was manufactured in Hamburg, Germany in 1952. Steinway refer to the Model O as the 'living room grand' as it is the most substantial in size of Steinway's "small grands". The piano has a walnut casing and is approximately 180 cm in length and 147 cm in width. The piano has a full, rich sound and all of the character one expects from the renowned maker.
Hire price: launch charge of R 3950.00 and monthly charge of R 2950.00.
Sale price: R 450 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 909 Steinway and Sons Grand Pianoforte with stool. Serial number 291133. This is an exceptionally rare "modern" model S grand, built in 1938. The case-design is extremely unusual, so much so that we nor otherinterested parties at the time the piano was offered for sale, believed it to be original, however the authenticity was confirmed by Steinways themselves, and the casing is correct. It is a New York edition.
Steinway grands tend to look like Steinway grands -with the exception of veneer choices, finished colour, and occasional Chippendale (Cabriole leg) models - most follow the same pattern. To find something like this is remarkable, and it might be said, not to be
repeated, in South Africa. Being a true statement piece, retaining its design presence and collectible appeal, this surely has to be an investment for the future.
The casing is currently in walnut, according to the previous owner, his dad received it in black, and Steinway's report confirms this, so it is probably not in its original guise. It could be taken back to black if required, however it looks wonderful as it stands.
There is no major internal work needed, again, we would rather see the original integrity of the instrument kept and restoring it should detract from the value rather than add to it.
Hire price: launch charge of R 3950.00 and monthly charge of R 2950.00.
Sale price: R 455 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 915 Steinway and Sons Grand Pianoforte with stool. See Grand Pianos Under Restoration (below) for more details...
DE 922 Steinway and Sons Grand Pianoforte with stool. Serial number: 219271. This is an American Model M. More details to be added soon.
DE 930 Steinway Grand Pianoforte and stool. Serial number: 393074; Model S. This piano was manufactured in Hamburg, Germany, and was imported and sold by Bothners in November, 1969, for R 2996.00, to the family who sold it on to us recently (August 2018).
This is a very late model Steinway in South African terms, given how few were brought into and remain in the country.
The piano is in an untouched state presently. We will have to re-polish the mahogany casing as the original polyester finish has cracked, a common problem with that finish over time. If purchased before doing so, we'd like to offer the buyer the choice of finish.
The soundboard and components are in good condition, the soundboard varnish shows crackling, this is not detrimental, nor unusual, but we will probably re-do the varnish as it doesn't add to the aesthetic value of such a beautiful instrument.
The ivory keys are in wonderful condition without any replacement or chipping.
The action is in excellent condition, as are the felts. It would be entirely unnecessary to replace anything but the whole system will of course be fully serviced.
Sale price, including restoration work as discussed, is R 405 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 939 Steinway and Sons Grand Pianoforte with stool. See Grand Pianos Under Restoration (below) for more details...
DE 944 Steinway Grand Pianoforte and stool. See Grand Pianos Under Restoration (below) for more details...
DE 919 Welmar Grand Pianoforte with matching stool. Serial number: 60490. This piano was manufactured in London. Welmar pianos gained great popularity around World War II as the makers were
agents for German pianos (they imported Grman piano into Britain) and could no longer import the pianos due to unavailability at the time and less popular due to the negative German sentiments. They are beautifully manufactured instruments which tend to have characteristics associated with quality German pianos. Eshelby Pianos re-polished this piano to a high-gloss white finish (May 2016).
Hire price: launch charge of R 2950.00 and monthly charge of R 1950.00.
Sale price: R 120 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 951 Yamaha Grand Pianoforte with matching stool. Model C2. Serial number 6218316.
This Yamaha was built in Japan in around 2008. It has a high gloss black casing and a matching original stool. The photos are taken in our polishing room as the piano had just arrived and we like to do a thorough clean up. This is a superb piano of a very nice size, in original condition and very lightly used. It would suit any serious musician or institution. This sort of piano is what everyone is looking for and they are very hard to come by.
The piano has 88 keys and 3 pedals. These keys have a medium to heavier touch and a silky smooth feel. The piano is 1.8 metres in length.
Sale price: R 225 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 954 Yamaha Grand Pianoforte with stool.
Model G2, built in Japan in 1984.
The piano has a high gloss black casing with and its original stool.
Its condition is completely original and excellent.
We sold this piano about 10 years ago and have now bought it back.
Sale price: R 160 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 956 Yamaha Grand Pianoforte with stool.
Model GC1, built in Japan in around 2012.
The piano has a high gloss black casing, is in completely original condition, with stool.
This is a stunning grand, comparable to as-new.
It is an obvious choice for anyone looking for a quality grand of a standard suitable for professional use.
Sale price: R 195 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 993 Yamaha Grand Pianoforte with stool. Serial number 6208846. This Model C7 Disklavier was manufactured in Japan in 2012 and has a high gloss black finish. Its condition is comparable to new and completely original, also having only one previous owner since new. This is a Concert quality instrument of great rarity in South Africa and is possibly one of the best grand pianos we have owned.
It has the Disklavier 3 system installed. We are selling the piano but are not punting the Disklavier portion as we are simply not versed in these.
This world class piano could suit any Concert venue, professional studio or pianist or simply someone who understands the value of such a beautiful piece.
Sale price: R 440 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 901 Carl Ecke Grand Pianoforte with stool. The piano was built in Germany in the 1930's. The German pianos of this era were largely of top quality and this one does not disappoint.
This piano was in obvious need of case
restoration and a re-polish (see the photos to the left), as well as internal restoration. It has been re-polished to a satin
white finish (September 2018). This is a very unusual grand, known as a symmetrical grand, a design where both bass and treble sides are curved. We have only had one other grand built in this way, in stock, before. To have something different, but of such superior quality, is special. Carl Ecke is a highly prized maker of pianos and this is sure to be one of the pianos we will always remember. It has obvious collectors appeal and would be a talking point in any setting. The beauty is exceeded by the fact that this is a really good instrument beyond being a wonderful decorators piece. We are currently busy with the internal restoration as time allows. Its small dimensions of a width of 143.5 cm and a length of 148 cm make it especially saleable. The piano has 85 keys and a beautifully mellow - yet strong - tone. The silky touch of a medium to heavier weight make it quite alluring to play.
The sale price when done will be in the region of R 148 500.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 903 Challen Grand Pianoforte with stool. This piano has a mahogany casing. Challen is a very well-known and one of the best English makes of pianos. This particular one has interesting legs. The touch is extremely balanced and of medium weight, lighter than many grand actions - which can be considered fairly difficult to play unless by a trained pianist. It has original ivory keys in good condition and 2 pedals. The Challen piano is 155 cm in length and 149 cm at its widest point.
Hire price: launch charge of R 2950.00 and monthly charge of R 1500.00.
Sale price: R 75 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 916 Ibach Grand Pianoforte with stool. Seven foot grand with ebonised casing. “C”, 1895. Beautiful and rare.
Sale price: R 223 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 915 Steinway and Sons Grand Pianoforte with stool. Model M, built in Hamburg in 1928, serial number 261 760. Mahogany casing. The Eshelby family have sold, serviced and maintained this piano over a period of 55 years, it giving stirling service in serious use, a great commendation for the brand if ever there was one! It is currently being restored back to it's original standard, hence the lack of a photo.
Sale price: R 354 000.00 (incl. VAT).
DE 939 Steinway and Sons Grand Pianoforte with stool. Serial number: 284962. This Model S-155 Steinway piano was manufactured in New York, in 1936 and has a mahogany casing. American Steinways have a particularly light feel in their case design, having less chunky
square tapered legs on spade feet than German models and the squared off rather than rounded cheeks give a very clean look. We obtained the piano from a gentleman who inherited the family farm in the Northern Cape where it had been housed for as long as anyone could remember. It wasn't working properly and that with the difficult location probably explains the lack of use. This is a piano with an amazing tone, completely original in condition. We see no point in doing any major
work; rather, we see great value in keeping it as original. The tone and feel of this piano is what Steinway felt it should be when it left the factory.
The only major refurbishment we intend on doing is to re-polish the casing and original stool. We would like to await a buyer who can choose their preferred re-polishing option as this is a blank canvas at this stage. It would also suit a black finish, but we are always considerate of the extra care taken in building pianos in a wood rather than painted finish. The ivory keys are in superb condition and the piano shows very little wear. The piano has 88 keys and 3 pedals. It is a wonderful thing
DE 944 Steinway
Grand Pianoforte and stool. This magnificent Model D Concert Grand is 274 cm in length and 156 cm
in width. This is the ‘pinnacle of concert grands’ in terms of quality with the additional grandeur of its refined details! We will be adding many more details about this piano as time allows.
