Wickham

We are not sure if there was actually a piano manufactured by the Wickham factory, but we are aware that they manufactured the frames for other brands of piano.

We purchased the JAE 65 labelled Otto Bach, but it had been re-labelled Otto Bach and is not of the brand. This specific piano was definately built in America and the frame is clearly manufactured by Wickham, however, the specific piano factory that manufactured the piano is a mystery. We have hence decided to label the piano a Wickham.

The image on the right is an advertisement for Wickham Piano Plates from the from the Music Trade Review. The advertisementwas published during March 1949.

Finished in a high gloss mahogany casing, this style of piano remains ever popular. The low back makes for a very attractive and unobtrusive piece. Wurlitzer pianos are well known for their reliability and robust build quality – the make of piano that is associated with Jazz musicians. This piano has 88 keys; 3 pedals, of which the middle one sustains the bass section only, and a medium to lighter touch. The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 94.5 cm, width of 143 cm and a depth of 65 cm.

JAE 415 Wurlitzer Upright Pianoforte with stool. Serial number: 218185. This was a much treasured piano by its previous owner who had it for about sixty years.

The piano was re-painted with chalk paint (September 2017) with a grey-brown undercoat and a pure white top coat. The piano has not been disressed to reveal the undercoat. One can see the original finish in the photo to the far left. Although the piano had obvious appeal with the original casing, the casing was worn and needed to be revitalised. It now looks very smart with the modern chalk paint combined with the bronze details. The piano is made by a very well-known manufacturer, Wurlitzer, in America; it is compact and sure to be a talking point in anyone's house! The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 95 cm, width of 146 cm and a depth of 63 cm.

DE 746 Yamaha Upright Pianoforte with matching stool. Serial number: 1100856. This piano was manufactured in Japan and has a walnut casing with a matching stool.
It has been years since we have had a console model Yamaha. They were made as a high-end option, having the classical styling of the Spinet models but built onto a larger frame, giving great advantage in tone quality.
Many people would like a Yamaha piano but are not fond of the modern style of most - this offers something different.
It has 88 keys; three pedals and a medium touch. The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 108 cm, width of 148 cm and a depth of 62 cm.

DE 749 Yamaha Upright Pianoforte and stool.

Serial number: 1328345.

Model: LU80. This piano was manufactured in Indonesia.

This piano has the ever-popular black finish.

DE 755 Yamaha Upright Pianoforte and stool. Serial number: D3082153. This Model M1J was manufactured in Japan in 1980. The piano is a high quality and smaller model Yamaha. It would have been an expensive piano from the Yamaha range, as cheaper options were being offered at the time. Purchased from one of our Country's best known opera singers,  it was used for pitch purposes during singing lessons, so may have helped nurture many more singers.
The piano has an American walnut, satin finish. The tone is pleasantly lively, not overly bright as one would expect in an earlier model Yamaha. It has 88 keys - with medium to heavier touch - and 3 pedals. The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 108 cm, a width 148 cm and a depth 54 cm.

DE 758 Yamaha Upright Pianoforte and stool. Serial number: M3514417. This model U1 piano was manufactured in Japan, in 1982.  The U1 Yamaha has an amazing reputation and is considered the Professional standard upright piano. This one is particularly good. It has a hammer containing a blue underfelt, which appears to be a special range, and the serial number beginning "M", which from the many U1's we've seen, this indicates that it has an especially rich tone, which many similar pianos lack, for being a bit tinny. The high gloss, mahogany casing makes it even better as few people realise the additional cost of a wood-finish piano when compared to black, as veneers have to be prepared and matched and the finish needs to be perfect, whereas in black finishes these details are not important. The condition is virtually as-new. The soft-pedal packing block hadn't even been removed, which must show the lack of use the piano has had... These pianos are really difficult to find and sell unbelievably well at ever increasing values. This piano has 88 keys and 3 pedals. The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 121 cm, width of 150.5 cm and a depth of 61 cm.

DE 760 Yamaha Upright Pianoforte and stool. Serial number: 1352574. This piano was manufactured in Japan, in 1972 and has a walnut casing.  This is a typically good Yamaha in good condition, showing little use. These earlier models have a wonderful depth of tone not often found on newer models, which is generally preferred by most players. It was incredibly, robustly built. This would suit any more serious player. This piano has 88 keys, with a medium touch, and 3 pedals. The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 100 cm, width of 145 cm and a depth of 52 cm.

DE 764 Yamaha Upright Pianoforte and stool. Serial number: A1658045. This piano was manufactured in Japan.  This is one of our favourite models of Yamaha.
I particularly prefer these older models which have a more complicated casing and a richness of tone that new models do not have.
It is currently completely original in mahogany casing.
Internally the piano is virtually as new.
The casing does show some markings and slight cracking of the finish in spots, so we may re-polish it, but if sold without polish it can go at a really good price so might better suit someone looking for a high quality piano at a reduced cost.
The piano has 88 keys, with the usual Yamaha medium to heavier touch, and three pedals. The dimensions of this piano are a height of 108 cm, width of 142.5 cm and a depth of 56 cm.

DE 767 Yamaha Upright Pianoforte and stool. Serial number: 4047771, Model U1 A. This piano was manufactured in Japan, in 1985, and has a rare, walnut casing with matching stool. The condition is as close to new as one could expect. We know the history of this piano since new. As dealers we jump at the chance to buy pianos like this, they are very scarce and always costly to get, but are so because they are so sought after. This is the "professional" model Yamaha upright. A wood finish piano is always significantly more expensive than one in black as the right veneers have to be sought and even matched. Whereas, with a black casing, there is no need to perfect the casing to this degree. This piano has 88 keys, with a medium to heavier touch, and 3 pedals. DE 773 Yamaha Upright Pianoforte and stool. Serial number: 5365700. This Model U3 was built in Japan in approximately 1995.
Now this is something special! Yamaha pianos are probably the most recognised and trusted name in pianos in our market.
We love dealing in them but... would not personally buy one as I just find them a little too generic and lacking in character. We love the sound of the good old German pianos as that huge, deep tone is incomparable to just about anything else, but the very few U3 Yamahas we have had have made us consider them in the same light.
This could arguably be the very best upright piano for sale on the local market at present. This model is exceedingly scarce and I am led to believe are unavailable locally unless by special order. The cost then would seemingly be beyond the R 300 000.00 level. We probably had my last one in stock around four years ago...
The condition is completely original and comparable to new. It's surprising that a piano of this standard was seemingly unused after purchase. The hammers are barely dented. The tuning - when we received it - was horrendous and unplayable in that state, leading us to wonder if it was ever even tuned after purchase.
The piano has 88 keys - with a medium to heavier touch weight - and 3 pedals. It has a full rich tone. The dimensions are: a height of 130 cm, a width of 153 cm and a depth of 64.5 cm.

DE 780 Yamaha Upright Piano with stool.

Yamaha Upright Pianoforte with stool. Japanese manufacture. Model U3, serial number H 2671210. High gloss black. Approximately 130 cm tall. This is probably the rarest of Yamaha upright pianos, and is the flagship in the upright range. Sold as "Special Order" pianos, they are very expensive and scarce. It has been many years since we were last able to stock one. This example was brought in to South Africa by the previous owners, from Italy. It has a label stating that the piano was seen-to by the recognised Yamaha dealer in Italy. The condition is comparable to new. (Previously referenced DE 797, this piano was sold in February 2018).

Yamaha Upright Pianoforte with stool. This Yamaha model M5J has a walnut casing and a matching stool. It is in excellent and original condition – having been bought new by the previous owner for their children's use. The piano has a matching stool. This piano was sold in February 2018 (previously referenced DE 723).

Yamaha Upright Pianoforte with matching stool. Serial number H3041733. This piano was manufactured in Japan in 1980. The casing has been finished in a high-gloss ebony and the piano has a matching stool. Yamaha pianos speak for themselves and carry an amazing reputation. The U1 model is the 'professional" one. This model is an extremely difficult one to find on the market and possibly the easiest make and model of any piano to sell. This piano’s dimensions are: height of 121 cm, width of 151 cm and depth of 61.5 cm. This piano, previously referenced DE 788, was sold June 2018.

Yamaha Upright Pianoforte and stool. Serial number: 380214. This Model U1 Yamaha piano was manufactured in Japan. It has its original mahogany casing polish. This is a superb example of this sought-after model. These earlier models are often preferred for their rounded tone, more mellow than a newer Yamaha. The piano was purchased from an elderly couple in Johannesburg, married for 60 years, they bought this piano new. It shows practically no use and was never moved from the house until we bought it. We even have the original key. The piano stands at 121 cm tall; has 88 keys, with a medium to heavier touch, and 2 pedals. Previously referenced DE 764, this piano was sold in December 2019.

Yamaha Upright Pianoforte with stool. Model M1, serial number 699 482, built in the late 1960 s in Japan. These pianos are a favourite among piano players and dealers, having an uncompromising quality of build, are known for reliability and ease of ownership and care. This one is in a walnut casing, with the grand-lift style top. The condition is excellent, with very little use, and was bought from the client who bought the piano new, needless to say the owner was most distressed in parting with the piano, but her situation demanded such. This piano, previously referenced DE 736, was sold August 2020.

Yamaha Upright Pianoforte with stool. Serial number: B1764620. This piano was manufactured in Japan in 1974. This is possibly one of the most beautiful Yamaha piano designs produced: this Console model has the attractiveness of a Spinet but all the advantages of a taller Yamaha piano. They are extremely scarce and, as far as we're aware, were produced in limited numbers.
This piano has a walnut casing of a dark brown stain and has its matching original stool. The condition is unbelievable. The seller said she had treasured it and it didn't have a mark on it. In our excitement at being able to purchase such a rare Yamaha we simply made an offer over the phone, taking our chances,  but when it arrived, we were amazed that indeed she was correct. The tone is typical of an older Yamaha in being lively but has a richness and no tinny tones, something quite special. It has 88 keys, of a medium to slightly heavier touch weight, and 3 pedals with a sostenuto rail. The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 107 cm, width of 143.5 cm and a depth of 60.6 cm. Previously referenced DE 703, this piano was sold during September 2021.

DE 934 Yamaha Grand Pianoforte and stool. Serial number: 789148. This Model G3 grand piano was manufactured in Japan.
The piano had a mahogany casing with matching stool, but because the original polyester finish showed cracking, it is currently being stripped and re-polished, and due to demand we thought to change it to a high gloss black.
The piano is a one-owner example.
Bought new and really hardly used, it stood in the ex-owner's only home all its life, moved for the first time in transit to us since then.
This larger size grand is very difficult to come-by. It has been a long while since we had one.
It offers a richness of tone not common in Yamaha pianos.
It would suit any level of pianist and could be a wonderful option for any serious player or institution.
The piano has 88 keys and 2 pedals.
The dimensions of the piano are a width of148.5 cm and a length of 185 cm. This piano, previously referenced DE 934, was sold in 2019.

DE 922 & DE 923 Yamaha pianos carry such a good reputation that we seldom find stock like this to purchase.
As luck would have it we found and purchased two model C2 Grand pianos round 2017.
Both were purchased new by their previous owners.  One supposedly in around 1998, and the other approximately 8 years ago.
We have not verified these dates as yet. Both are in excellent condition showing little or practically no wear.
Both of these pianos were sold in 2018, the C2 model is 1.8 metres in length (width of 152 cm), making it a really nice sized grand.
They have a reputation for being able to project sound especially well, over other models and would be pleasing to serious pianists, fantastic for public institutions and so on.

The C2 is a professional quality instrument, made in Japan.  It is 1.8 metres in length. It was purchased by Eshelby Pianos from its original owner. The piano is an amazing example, being probably as close to a new condition piano as possible - barely used and having only ever been moved since being placed in the buyer's home. Yamaha's reputation speaks for itself.  This would be a highly sought after piano. This piano was sold in 2018.

DE 993 Yamaha Grand Pianoforte with stool. Serial number 6208846. This Model C7 Disklavier was manufactured in Japan in 2012 and has a high gloss black finish. Its condition is comparable to new and completely original, also having only one previous owner since new. This is a Concert quality instrument of great rarity in South Africa and is possibly one of the best grand pianos we have owned.
It has the Disklavier 3 system installed. We are selling the piano but are not punting the Disklavier portion as we are simply not versed in these.
This world class piano could suit any Concert venue, professional studio or pianist or simply someone who understands the value of such a beautiful piece.

Yamaha Model C2 Grand Pianoforte with matching stool. Manufactured in Japan, this is a high gloss ebony cased C2 Grand Pianoforte fitted with the Yamaha Disklavier System. It is a fascinating, interesting instrument, in practically as-new condition. Information received shows this as being a Mark 3 Disklavier. Everything functions as it should. We currently have just one demo CD which came with the piano, but others should be easily obtainable. It is basically like having an orchestra in your home. The Disklavier system plays the music on the CD with very good sound quality while the piano “plays itself” – the keys and pedals move as if the music is being played by a ghost! This is a very rare item in South Africa. This piano also has a 'MIDI' which is basically a system whereby someone can compose and record their own music which can also be transferred to a computer. This piano was sold in August 2016.

The piano is finished in walnut. Its condition is extremely good, showing very little use and obviously good care. It is very comparable to other well-known Eastern makes of piano. In fact, it's tone makes it superior to some examples from the best-known makers in Japan, it certainly is a premier quality piano. The piano has 88 keys and 3 pedals. Germanic, rich, mellower tone and a medium to heavier touch, making it a very good choice for someone wanting to practice technique, where many pianos have a touch that is considerd too light for someone looking to improve one's fingering.
